My Birth: A Simple Idea That Turned the World Upside Down
🌍 Let’s Go Back to 1989
It all started when a British scientist named Tim Berners-Lee decided to create a new way to share information across a large network of computers. At that time, Tim was working at CERN in Switzerland and faced a big question: How could scientific information be easily and quickly shared among scientists?
The answer was me: the “World Wide Web” or simply the web (www). Now, do you know what my name means? It’s a “World-Wide Web”! Imagine a huge spider web with many nodes. Each node represents websites or databases where we can explore and access information. This massive information network, the web, is exactly where we easily find all the desired data.
A Simple Idea: Combining
- HTML: A language for designing web pages! With this language, you can define various elements such as text, images, headings, and links on a web page. The role of web browsers is to interpret and translate HTML tags so that users see the content instead of the HTML code.
- URL: The address we give to the pages.
- HTTP: A method for transferring information! It allows us to request to view a web page from a server.
After much effort, Tim Berners-Lee finally launched me in 1991. The name of the first website ever? “Info.cern.ch”! Yes, it was the website Tim created to experiment with and explain how I work.
🚶 From Crawling to Walking: My Growth Journey
In the early days, I was primarily for scientists and programmers. But soon enough, the world realized how useful I could be! With the introduction of web browsers, access to me became available to everyone. Suddenly, anyone could access tons of information with just a few clicks. Do you remember the first time you used Internet Explorer? It was thrilling, wasn’t it? I quickly evolved from a simple tool to something that brought the world of information right into your homes and onto your phones!
💬 Social Media: Connecting the World Together
By the early 2000s, I had become much more than just a digital library. Social networks like Facebook and Instagram, followed by Twitter and TikTok, turned me into a vast space for social connections. Now, people use me not only for research and information but also to find new friends, share exciting photos, and even start online businesses. I connected everyone and built a global village.
📚 Online Education: The Classroom in Your Pocket!
Remember when online classes started? You no longer needed to deal with traffic to get to your class. With a few clicks, the best schools in the world were in your homes. Educational websites, instructional videos, and online courses all came to your aid through me. No matter where you are, you can always learn something new. I helped reduce distances and made knowledge accessible to everyone.
